The University of Exeter silver awards celebrate the priority given to widening access to higher education and enabling pupils across the region and students to realise their potential regardless of background

The University of Exeter has been ranked in the global top 150, and 13th in the UK, in the latest influential rankings.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities ranking, released on Monday, July 1st, assesses the world’s top 2,250 universities across a range of measures focusing on academic research performance and reputation.

Exeter was also ranked 43rd in Europe in the international league table. 

The Univesity’s success was due to strong performances in a number of assessment categories, including percentage of most highly cited papers. 

The University also features in 29 of the individual subject rankings within the assessment –  with nine subjects placed in the top 100 globally.

The best performing catergories are Meteorology & Atmospheric Sciences (8th), Ecology (12th), Environment/Ecology (24th), Geosciences (28th) and Marine and Freshwater Biology (32nd). 

The subject rankings are based on 13 metrics including reputation, citations and publications.

Exeter’s strong standing is the latest in a series of international successes.

In June, the University secured a top 10 place in the THE Impact Rankings, while retaining its place as first in the world in the Clean Water and Sanitation category.

In May, Exeter also retained its top 15 ranking in the Complete University Guide 2025,  while the  University also secured a ‘solid gold’ standard for its commitment to providing world-class teaching, in the 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework assessment.
