The University of Exeter has been placed 32nd globally in an influential environmental and social impact ranking,

The University of Exeter has been named amongst the top universities in Europe in a new international ranking.

Exeter has been ranked =47th in Europe in the inaugural QS World Universities Rankings: Europe league table, announced today (Wednesday, September 20th  2023). The University has also been ranked 21st in the United Kingdom.

The new rankings are produced by global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds, and represent the only significant regional ranking of solely European universities.

Exeter’s position is based on its ranking in 12 key indicators. The University’s strongest performance was in Sustainability (24th) and Citations per Paper (42nd)  categories, while International Student Diversity, Employer Reputation, International Research Network, Academic Reputation and International Faculty were all ranked in the top 80.

The new rankings feature 690 institutions across 42 locations in Europe overall, including 107 in the United Kingdom.

Exeter has achieved other recent notable success in University rankings. Earlier this month, the University named runner-up in the prestigious University of the Year award for the second successive year in the influential The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024. Exeter also saw a rise in the overall rankings, moving up two places to 11th nationally.

Exeter was also shortlisted for the prestigious University of the Year award in the Times Higher Education Awards 2023. The University was nominated for its world-leading research, teaching and innovation, as well as its commitment to creating a greener, fairer and heathier future for all. 

Exeter was also shortlisted for both the Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership, and Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community categories in the awards.
