CREWW researchers explore collaborative working with Dutch Institute

CREWW researchers visited their Dutch counterparts the KWR Water Research Institute.

Researchers from the Centre for Resilience in Environment, Water and Waste (CREWW) at the University of Exeter have visited their Dutch counterparts the KWR Water Research Institute to explore opportunities to partner on water sector projects.

The CREWW team led by co-Director Professor Richard Brazier visited KWR’s headquarters in Nieuwegein in February 2025 to understand research in the water sector being carried out in the Netherlands.

KWR has built a reputation for innovation in applying scientific knowledge into applicable, practical solutions for end users in the Dutch and international water sector.

As well as seeing KWR’s state-of-the-art facilities, discussions were had on opportunities to collaborate further in the future, including knowledge transfer partnerships and collaborative projects on drinking water quality, detection of contaminants, digital twins and more. Professor Brazier said, “This occasion showcased CREWW’s leadership in the field and provided a chance to expand future opportunities that will benefit water research and the whole water sector.”

Professor Dragan Savic, Global Advisor Digital Services at KWR, said: “It was an immense pleasure to host The University of Exeter at KWR. There are a lot of opportunities to collaborate with CREWW and the Centre for Water Systems.”
