The University of Exeter has appointed Professor Jensen Tsan Hang Li to its Department of Engineering

The University of Exeter has appointed Professor Jensen Tsan Hang Li to its Department of Engineering, it has been announced.

Professor Li joins Exeter from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), where he was awarded his PhD in Physics. He has enjoyed a distinguished career with positions at Imperial College London (collaborating with metamaterials pioneer Prof. Sir John Pendry), University of California at Berkeley, City University of Hong Kong and the University of Birmingham.

His research interests encompass wave-matter interactions across a variety of domains from acoustic time-varying metamaterials through to electromagnetic metamaterials for cloaking and photonic metamaterials for quantum computing.

His achievements, which recently earned him a nomination for the IET A.F. Harvey Engineering Research Prize 2024, across a variety of research areas led to Prof Li holding the position of Director of the Centre for Metamaterials Research at HKUST prior to joining Exeter as Professor in the Department of Engineering.

Prof Li, who also joins the Centre for Metamaterial Research and Innovation (CMRI) at the University of Exeter said: “Metamaterials is a highly active research area at the University of Exeter and throughout the UK, providing immediate opportunities for collaboration.

“This is particularly important to me, as my interests span a wide range of metamaterials topics from acoustics to optics.”
