Exeter students representing their country in major rugby tournaments

Lilly Plowman has been named in the England U20 Women’s squad for the 2024 Six Nations Summer Series, set to take place in Wales this July.

Eight of Exeter’s most impressive rugby players will be contributing to their national teams in major tournaments in 2025.

A large contingent from the men’s firsts team and one student from our women’s team will represent England and Scotland as they come up against the World’s best in their age groups.

Seven of Exeter’s aspiring rugby players have been called up to represent their country in the 2025 World Championship. With 12 of the World’s best teams, players from the University will be playing for England and Scotland in the tournament.

Joining previous championship winners Louis Gulley, Kane James and Ben Coen; Nick Lilley, Nic Anderson and Campbell Ridl were all part of England’s 56-19 win against Scotland on June 29, with Exeter’s Kane James cutting “an irresistible line to touch down” to score England’s second try.

Representing Scotland is Full-back Jed Findlay, part of the Exeter Chiefs academy, and formerly in the Exeter College rugby academy. After his time training with the Scotland U20s in summer, Jed was called up to join them in Italy in June.

The England women’s U20’s squad has selected University of Exeter student Lilly Plowman to play in the 2025 U20’s Six Nations summer series. Lilly is currently part of former Exeter student Poppy Leich’s U23s Exeter Chiefs squad and has been developing her game since she was part of the Exeter College rugby academy.

A representative from the performance team at University of Exeter Sport said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to see eight of our students representing their respective nations. Their performances on the field for BUCS Super Rugby, Exeter Chiefs and international age-grade sides have not gone unnoticed, and we are pleased that they will showcase their talent again on the international stage.”

The University is proud that Exeter continues to demonstrate its strength and depth across our rugby programmes, supporting students to progress both academically and within their sporting journeys. All at the University of Exeter wish the students the very best of luck with their upcoming rugby and look forward to welcoming them back at the start of the new academic year in September.
