Commentary on Wes Streeting’s Labour Party conference speech
Professor Cornish, who has spent the past three decades working in think-tanks and universities after beginning his career in the British Army and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, hopes to strengthen Exeter’s contribution to policy-making.
Commenting on Defence Secretary Wes Streeting’s speech, Professor Paul Cornish said:
“The UK Armed Forces are in immediate need of refunding and reconstruction, yet the UK Defence Investment Plan has been a chaotic saga of indecision, equivocation and delay.
“The UK public should not be expected to wait any longer for clarity, consistency and conviction in UK defence strategy, planning and investment. Investment in defence must be made immediately; not hedged either by contending bids for public funds or by the possibility that defence requirements might change in the future.”
