Camille Bonneaud

Professor Camille Bonneaud from the University of Exeter has been appointed to Defra’s Science Advisory Council.

The council is an advisory non-departmental public body which provides expert independent advice on science policy and strategy to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

Professor Bonneaud has been appointed for a three-year term along with Professor Nicola Beaumont (Plymouth Marine Laboratory), Professor Chris Hauton (University of Southampton) and Professor Jane Hill (University of York).

An expert in evolutionary ecology, Professor Bonneaud is also Director of the Environment and Sustainability Institute on Exeter’s Penryn Campus in Cornwall.

“I am delighted to be appointed as a member of Defra’s Science Advisory Council,” Professor Bonneaud said.

“Throughout my academic career, I have strived to understand the drivers behind the emergence and evolution of infectious diseases in animals, and have always had a passion for preserving biodiversity.

“I am therefore particularly excited to play an active role in assessing the evidence that shapes Defra’s policies to protect our natural environment and the livelihoods and industries that depend on it.”
