The secret of Blue Planet 3’s success
Professor Callum Roberts, from the University of Exeter and lead scientist of the Convex Seascape Survey, worked as a science advisor for several episodes of the new season of Blue Planet. He said:
“What makes Blue Planet great is artistry, technical brilliance and scientific accuracy. My job as science advisor was to ensure that artistic storytelling remains true to what we understand about the ocean. The questions put to me were highly varied and often from the borderlines of knowledge, such as how many fish are there in the sea? Can coral reefs be saved? How will ocean warming affect animals that depend on cold water? There are no definitive answers here, but science helps us filter out implausible and misleading possibilities. The resulting series will amaze, entertain and inform, just as previous series have done so well.”
