Professor Shiqiang Wang

Professor Shiqiang Wang from the Department of Computer Science has been named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Professor Wang was chosen for “contributions to machine learning and service placement in edge computing systems”.

The grade of IEEE Fellow is awarded to a very small number of professionals with outstanding accomplishments in IEEE’s fields of interest.

Every year, less than 0.1% of the total IEEE voting membership worldwide become elevated to the Fellow grade.

Professor Wang said: “Receiving this recognition is a true honour. I’m deeply grateful to the wonderful colleagues and collaborators I’ve worked with throughout the years.

“We are at a very interesting time now with AI growing rapidly. I’m committed to teaching our students to be AI-ready and doing research to make AI more collaborative, optimised, reliable, and efficient.

“I want to make sure that the next generation keeps up with modern AI technologies and uses them to make everyone’s life better.”
