Professor Peter Stott

An Exeter researcher has been appointed MBE in the New Year Honours List.

Professor Peter Stott, of the University of Exeter and the Met Office, won the honour for services to climate science.

Professor Stott has published ground-breaking work on climate change attribution (ie what causes climate change).

He also communicates science to the public – including through his book Hot Air: The Inside Story of the Battle Against Climate Change Denial – and works to bring arts and sciences together.

Professor Stott said: “I am delighted and immensely proud to have received this honour recognising my work researching and communicating the causes and nature of climate change.

“I have been privileged to work with many inspiring people at the University of Exeter and the Met Office.

“This includes wonderful colleagues from many different departments at the University of Exeter with whom I have collaborated in inter-disciplinary projects bringing arts and sciences together to convey the seriousness of the climate crisis as well as the life-affirming opportunities to overcome it.”

The New Year Honours List recognises the achievements and service of extraordinary people across the UK.
