The Exeter Centre for Social Networks co-hosted a Social Networks Society workshop on campus last week

The Exeter Centre for Social Networks (ECSN), part of the University of Exeter Business School, has been accredited by the Social Networks Society as a World Leader Research Centre in Social Network Research.

The five-year accreditation reinforces the research centre’s position as a leading hub for social network science worldwide.

The Exeter Centre for Social Networks aims to advance understanding of the vital role of social networks in economies and societies and their potential to impact leadership, culture and collaboration.

The accreditation follows a rigorous evaluation process, with the judging panel noting ECSN’s strong interdisciplinary approach, integrating insights across management and related fields.

ECSN’s global research profile and collaborative partnerships across Europe, Asia, and the Americas were key factors in the award, and the Social Networks Society also commended the research centre’s commitment to real-world impact, engagement with institutions and support for doctoral and early-career researchers.

Professor Steve Wood, Dean of the University of Exeter Business School, said: “This truly excellent news affirms our commitment to scientific excellence and sustained leadership in advancing the study and application of social network research.

“Strong social networks are the backbone of thriving economies and resilient societies. The way people and organisations connect shapes innovation, fuels growth and drives productivity. When leaders truly understand these dynamics, they can communicate with greater impact, foster stronger, more cohesive cultures, and unlock meaningful collaboration.

“I am delighted that the ECSN has been recognised as being at the vanguard of social networks research and would like to congratulate everyone involved.”

Dr Stefano Tasselli, Director of the Exeter Centre for Social Networks, said he was also delighted by this recognition, adding that it “highlights the excellent contribution to social network scholarship of our researchers, teachers and fellows”.

This significant achievement came in a week when the Exeter Centre for Social Networks hosted in partnership with the Research Methods Centre the Social Networks Society’s  “School of Network Methods – From Analysis to Publication” workshop on campus at Streatham (pictured).
