A major gathering of researchers, policymakers and business leaders is under way at the University of Exeter.
Hosted by the University and the Met Office, Exeter Climate Forum includes the latest science and aims to inspire bold action to tackle the climate emergency.
With the dangerous impacts of climate change increasing worldwide, the Forum will help shape priorities for the COP30 climate summit in Brazil later this year.
More than 1,000 people will attend a wide variety of events, ranging from science talks and workshops to film screenings and music performances.
Speaking at the opening session, Professor Lisa Roberts, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter, said: “We hope that the Forum will contribute to global debate and also showcase the incredible strength of our city and region in environmental science.
“Here in the South West, we have a unique and sizeable cluster of expertise between the University, the Met Office, our regional partners, and a wide range of organisations and businesses.
“Our University alone is home to 1,500 experts working broadly across environment, climate and sustainability and we are incredibly proud of our achievements and reputation but particularly impact – both regionally and globally.”
Met Office Chief Executive Professor Penny Endersby said: “Robust climate data and climate science is crucial to enable policy makers to make informed decisions.
“Met Office colleagues and I are very proud to partner with the University of Exeter in making this event happen.”
The Forum’s events include the Exeter Climate Conference, the second Global Tipping Points Conference, the annual meeting of the New Carbon Economy Consortium, and dedicated events for policymakers and business leaders.
It is taking place at the University’s Streatham Campus in Exeter. For more information, visit https://exeterclimateforum.com/
