Cornish Resources Limited, a subsidiary of Strategic Minerals Plc (AIM:SML), has announced a donation of £5,000 to support a female UK student pursuing MSc Exploration and Mining Geology at the University of Exeter’s Camborne School of Mines.

This scholarship aims to encourage greater diversity within the mining and geology sectors, which have historically been underrepresented by women.

The Camborne School of Mines, renowned for its expertise in mining and minerals education, offers specialised programmes that combine academic rigor with practical experience.

The MSc in Exploration and Mining Geology provides students with the skills necessary to address the industry’s evolving challenges, including sustainable resource extraction and environmental stewardship.

Cornish Resources’ contribution underscores the company’s commitment to fostering talent and innovation within the mining sector.

Sustainability Manager Emily Widdecombe said: “At Cornwall Resources, we are proud to support the next generation of geologists, and particularly to encourage more women to enter this dynamic industry. By investing in talented students at the Camborne School of Mines, we are helping to build a diverse, skilled workforce that will drive innovation and sustainable practices in mining for years to come.”

Professor Pat Foster, Head of Camborne School of Mines, said: “We are delighted to see Cornish Resources supporting a female student on our MSc Exploration and Mining Geology programme. Scholarships like this not only help talented individuals pursue their ambitions but also play a vital role in promoting diversity and inclusion within the mining industry, ensuring it continues to grow with fresh ideas and perspectives.”
